Precious photos of my father and mother holding me in a refugee camp in Indonesia. Our family escape by boat and risk our lives to come to the United States to find a better life. Within deepest and most compassionate aspiration of all humanity, all fathers and mothers want their children to live a well, beautiful, and peaceful life. We should contemplate where we came from and that in some way we were all refugee in search of a better life. And in that way, we can have deep empathy for those refugee who are struggling today.
