"The Hmong American Center, Inc. is shedding light on the history, culture and heritage of the Hmong community with the second annual Hmong Wausau Festival, taking place July 28-29. With help from a $16,000 Joint Effort Marketing Grant from the Wisconsin Department of Tourism, the festival aims to attract visitors from across the Midwest to experience everything from traditional Hmong food to sporting events...
“We are excited to once again support The Hmong American Center in their efforts to highlight the athletic, artistic and culinary talent found within the Southeast Asian community,” said Tourism Secretary Stephanie Klett. “The festival will not only celebrate the Hmong community, which as has been sharing its arts and culture with the Midwest for more than 40 years, it will also create a positive economic impact in the Wausau area.”...
The Hmong Wausau Festival will host a variety of tournaments such as flag football, soccer and volleyball, as well as singing and dancing competitions. There will also be a Mr. Hmong Talent Pageant and a new night market featuring artists and live entertainment. The event is expected to attract 12,000 attendees, generating an estimated $952,000 in visitor spending in the area...."
