Join members of the Hmong American Writers' Circle, Chicanx Writers and Artists Association, Fresno Women Read, the Fresno State Creative Writing Alumni Chapter, and other community writers as they share poems, stories, and essays in an effort to raise money for RAICES!
RAICES is an organization working towards funding bail for immigrants and refugees in detention centers. RAICES is also helping pay for the legal representation of immigrants and refugees for their asylum hearings.
Rather than charging admission, we’re requesting that each reader donate $5. We want everyone in the community to feel welcomed and encouraged to attend without the added pressure of donating. Of course, if audience members would like to donate, you will definitely have an opportunity. Also, WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU READ! If you're interested in reading, please let us know! You can leave a comment, or, if you're feeling spontaneous, you can let us know at the event.
Also, if you have any students who might be interested in attending the event, or if they might be interested in reading, please extend this invitation to them. If the donation is a concern, let us know and we would be happy to sponsor them. The morning Trump was elected, several of our students waited after class to talk about their concerns for undocumented communities—we want those students who are uncertain or afraid to know that they have the support of our community.
If you have any books or merchandise you’d like to donate to the raffle, definitely let us know. Feel free to ask us any questions you have. All proceeds for the event will go to RAICES.
